Vendor Spotlight-Green Finch Florals

What better vendor to spotlight on this beautiful Tuesday than the floral arrangements by Greenfinch Floral Designs. Flowers are always a necessary part of having a beautiful day and the owner, Denise, was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about her business. How did you get into floral design?

As a college student I studied art and design and have always loved flowers, weddings and entertaining. After college my love for design carried on through jobs that paid the rent. I was always designing events for my employers. One day a very dear friend in the wedding planning business invited me to participate in "My Big Fat East Nashville Wedding" She told me my floral designs needed to be seen by brides and she knew my passions was designing. I told her I was not ready and would be glad to participate next year. With that she said to me "sometimes the door opens and we have to go through it even if we feel we might not be ready "... I took her advice participated in the event found my true passion... designing for brides. I have never looked back. I am forever grateful to my friend.

Explain your process of working with a bride.

I love meeting with brides....our first meeting is very casual and relaxed I want to hear their story... how they met their groom, the little details of what they like and what they don't like... the things that make them unique. Understanding a brides likes and dislikes is an important process in getting to know her and her personal style... it's about knowing what not to add as much as is it is what to add. Once we have a vision I get to work pulling all of the elements together. I like to keep an open dialog with the bride while I am working on their design. I am always thinking about my brides. I am constantly on the lookout for unique pieces that will add a special touch...and when I find it I am just like a kid in a candy store... I can't wait to tell my bride about my find. After I have pulled all the elements together the bride and I meet again to finalize all the details.

What is/are your favorite flowers?

Oh gosh, that is a hard question... Seasonal flowers are so wonderful they always add a special touch to a bouquet. But, If I had to pick a favorite I guess I would be a hydrangea girl. They are so beautiful and full and they come in such a varitiy of colors. They can be the star of the show as a single flower or as the host for a variety of different flowers tucked within it's delicate floral lace.

What makes you different from other florists?

I am like a personal shopper. I get to know you what you style is and then I get busy searching for whatever will make your day special.... a special flower or an special pin for your bouquet I found in an antique shop... Something you would not have thought of but, when you see it you can't believe how perfect it is.

What's one thing you love to hear in consultation with a bride?

" You get me" I love getting to know the bride and thinking about all the details she might not have thought of that will make her wedding special, unique and personal.

We asked Denise a few personal questions and here is what she said:

Mac or PC? Mac

Tea or Coffee? Oh... Coffee for sure... I used to keep a french press in my office My door was always open to anyone looking for a great cup of Joe... I am a huge fan of locally owned business and you just can't beat a local coffee shop. It is the best place to get to know the people in the area.
